Watch and Create 3D videos on YouTube

Check out steps to watch YouTube videos in 3D. This feature lets you view the videos hosted on their site in 3D. Now before I show how to view the videos in 3D, you either must have a pair of 3D glasses, only the old model works, not the new ones. If you do not have a pair of old 3D glasses lying around another trick you can do is to cross your eyes. Even though you might not get the full 3D effect this is a good alternative. But try to get the glasses, its worth a try.

How To Watch YouTube Videos In 3D?

This trick will work only for videos which are meant for 3D viewing. Before starting please understand that some videos will not look good in 3D format, because they were not made that way. Others were made to be viewed in 3D, hence they will look better in 3D. Also, this trick might not work on some videos, while it will work in others.

Lets do it:
These are the basic steps....
1. &yt3d:enable=true    : Enables the view mode.
2. &yt3d:aspect=3:4     : Sets the aspect of the encoded video.
3. &yt3d:swap=true      : Swaps the left and right sources.

Now when you would like to use this in a video just add it to the end of the URL or web address like so:
Actual URL:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUmP4qo96rU
Edited URL for 3D viewing:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUmP4qo96rU&yt3d:enable=true

Like you can see the snapshot of the image above, you would see double images without the 3D glasses. This feature also enables few more options for choosing different colour scheme, parallel, cross eyed, mirror split along with left and right views only.

Enjoy watching your YouTube videos in 3D, and maybe even attempt making your own 3D videos. Why not?
These are some tips for creating a 3D video and all you need is a...

1. 3D Webcam - Its a webcam which has two lenses and it records two video streams simultaneously from slightly different angle. It uses the same scientific principles as 3D movie camera. You can connect the 3D webcam to your PC with a USB cable. A basic model costs around Rs.3500.

2. And offcourse some creative skills as well.

Steps for creating a 3D video:

1. Use a 3D webcam to shoot a video. You can use each video stream individually as the regular 2D video, just like your old 2D webcam.

2. You need to install the software that comes with the 3D webcam to combine these two video streams to create a 3D anaglyph - a stereoscopic image.

3. After the software is installed and you need to select the 3D mode, then you are ready to make 3D video. Use it just like your old 2D webcam.

4. You can post the 3D video on your website or on YouTube. You can also use the 3D webcam with Skype, MSN, etc. for video conference. It is perfect for you to use the 3D webcam to show a three dimensional object during your video conference.

5. The viewer will need a pair of commonly available "red and cyan" 3D glasses to get the 3D effect. Without the glasses, you will get a blurr video.

So do try it out and put your creative skills to proper use.
